Right now the VI legislature is holding a special session to discuss and hear testimony on the proposed agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and ArcLight Partners, LLC, and the possible restart of oil refining activities at the Limetree Bay Facility on St. Croix, USVI. The vote is scheduled for later today.
The St. Croix Environmental Association would like to share our stance on the operation agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and ArcLight Partners, LLC, and the possible restart of oil refining activities at the Limetree Bay Facility on St. Croix, USVI. At this time, SEA recommends that the Virgin Islands Government delay the legislative vote scheduled for Wednesday, July 25, 2018. Our organization and other concerned community members have not had sufficient time to gather specific information about the operating agreement, particularly regarding mitigation of environmental impacts. The current timeline provides little opportunity for the community to examine the details of the agreement between the Virgin Islands Government and ArcLight LLC to provide input before today’s vote. The legislature is meeting on St. Thomas, but will be taking questions ahead of the vote. You can submit your written questions to mcastor@legvi.org or call (340) 693-3519.
