Reptile Ramble at Southgate Coastal Reserve – From the tops of the trees to the leaf litter debris and along the beach, discover the various types of reptiles that inhabit our island! Jen Valiulis, SEA’s Environmental Educator will be our guide. The ramble is appropriate for children and adults, ages 5 and over. Bring sunscreen, water and comfortable shoes that you will not mind getting a little muddy or sandy. This activity is free to members and children; $10 for nonmembers. Hatchling watches begin at 5:15 p.m. and end between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. This is a great activity for children and the whole family! You must be a SEA member to attend watches with SEA. Reservations are required. Please call (340) 773-1989 for reservations and membership information.
Leatherback sea turtle hatchling watches are provided by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge. If you would like to schedule a sea turtle watch for a group of 15 – 30 people please call U.S. Fish & Wildlife directly ~ (340) 690-9452.
It’s the beginning of leatherback turtle nesting season on St. Croix! Local experts, Claudia Lombard (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) and Jennifer Valiulis (St. Croix Environmental Association) will share information about the status of leatherback nesting on St. Croix and what you can do to help protect these giant endangered reptiles.
