SEA offers a variety of free or low-cost activities to explore and better understand our island’s environment. Residents and visitors are welcome! SEA strives to provide knowledgeable guides for such activities as shore walks or hikes to better understand our native flora and fauna; visits to the endangered bird rehabilitation program; organic farm visits; star-gazing; and snorkeling trips, to name just a few. If you would like to know more about SEA activities, volunteer as a guide or make suggestions, just email or call SEA at 340-773-1989.

Turtle Watch at Sandy Point

May 31, 2016 @ 7:45 pm

This is a special opportunity to see nesting leatherback sea turtles at the Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge. The St. Croix Environmental Association (SEA) is one of many community groups that participates in the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Turtle Watch Education Program every year. The three dates above are open only to SEA members. Nesting watches begin at 7:45 p.m. and end at midnight or later so are not appropriate for children under 6 years of age.  Space is limited and reservations are absolutely required, no exceptions. Call (340) 773-1989 for reservations and membership information.

The USFWS offers the Turtlewatch program to community groups and youth groups. Groups must have at least 15 and no more than 30 participants. The Turtle Watch Program runs five nights each week (Tuesday through Saturday) from April 15 to July 31. To schedule a Turtlewatch for a group call the Turtle Watch Program Coordinator at (340) 690-9452.
