Ivan Butcher II, Vice Chairman
I began in 1969 as a vocational art instructor, K through9th grade, for the Virgin Islands Department of Education. I often used found forest materials for arts and crafts projects. After retiring in 2000 I began hiking with the St. Croix Hiking Association to learn more about the environment. I am currently serving as their Vice President. In addition, I have been the Public Relations Officer for the VI Urban Community Forestry Council since 2008. I have become an active advocate for the conservation and the preservation of our environment her in the Virgin Islands by learning as much as possible about our green areas, sharing with others, especially grade school students as a volunteer leader and as a chaperone on hikes, by serving on environmental boards, and by writing and posting articles on environmental issues impacting our community.

Formerly, Ky worked at the University of the Virgin Islands for the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies and taught part-time for a class titled The Natural World: The Caribbean. In her free time, she enjoys photography, SCUBA diving, and loves to dance.
Marina Ricci, Treasurer
Marina is a former attorney from Chicago and is currently working as an office manager for a local law firm. Ever since arriving in the Virgin Islands, she has been interested in the environment and the people who live on St. Croix. Marina is very excited about being involved with SEA and hopes to make a meaningful contribution to SEA and to St. Croix.
Don Buchanan is a fan of Edward Abbey author of The Monkey Wrench Gang a novel about Eco-Warriors, but has done nothing illegal in the name of environmentalism yet. He is only 64 so there is still a chance for him. On the conventional side he listens to Jeffrey Sachs, the environmental guru who directs the Earth Institute at Columbia University. Sachs played an instrumental part in helping develop the Millennium Development Goals for the United Nations. Those goals are all about sustainable development which Buchanan believes could happen. Buchanan has worked the last nine years at the VI Energy Office where he has been an advocate of alternative energy and energy efficiency. He has given presentations and written for various publications about Climate Change. Before he moved to the Virgin Islands he worked as editor and writer for several newspapers. The last several years in Ohio, he and his wife owned a weekly newspaper. He dives, snorkels and attempts to play tennis.
Born and raised on St. Croix, I completed all my educational requirements on island. In 2008, I graduated from UVI with a BA in Psychology, and a few months later gave birth to my first child. In 2006 I starred in the BET’s hit series College Hill and have been blessed with may works since then – modelling, hosting shows, currently, working for I Grade Records. My duties at I Grade include planning and coordinating events, producing and directing videos, marketing and promoting events, new artists, new music, etc. I also manage the retail store, Riddims Music, where I work on the marketing team, plan in-store events, make orders, and assist customers with purchases and transactions. I like to think of myself as a very active individual, and so I contribute my spare time towards positive uplifting opportunities. While I love what I do in my professional life, during my personal hours, I’m a lover of the kitchen and outdoors, and enjoy occasional journaling. So at any given time I can be found whipping up a delicious veggie dish or seen swimming and taking advantage of the beach or even somewhere in nature teaching my son about the abundance in the simplicity and importance of life and the earth. Because of my love of nature, family and community, I am committed to helping to maintain a healthy environment in St. Croix for my son and future generations. Being a part of SEA, beyond a person who just attends events, will broaden my outreach to the community as well as put my skills and talents towards such a positive and great organization. I look forward to being a part of the SEA team and collaborating to bring great positive works to life and to the community!
